What were the American Idol producers thinking when they hired two divas to coexist in the same judging panel? Seriously, they had to know that something like this was going to happen. Earlier this week, TMZ released a video in which Nicki Minaj shouts insults at Mariah Carey. Now, Carey has told veteran journalist Barbara Walters that the rapper threatened to shoot her… if only she had a gun.
In the TMZ video, released Tuesday, Minaj is seen swearing at Carey and threatening to “knock [her] out.” Carey fired back with a few insults, but the video clearly shows that she kept her cool. Minaj didn’t.
According Billboard, Barbara Walters spoke to Carey this morning and shared her conversation on ABC’s The View. Walters said:
“[Carey] is very concerned. She is with her twins. She doesn’t feel that anything would happen. I’m quoting now, ‘But Nicki is unpredictable’ and Mariah says she can’t take a chance and she has hired extra security.”
The extra security is because of a comment Minaj made while leaving the set of American Idol after the clash. Supposedly she said that if she had a gun, she would shoot that b**** (referring to Carey).
Walters said that Carey doesn’t feel emotionally comfortable, but that she’ll continue on with the show because she loves mentoring contestants.
Minaj has since tweeted about Walter’s comments, and denied any “gun” threat.
“Ironically no camera or mic heard the gun comment tho. LOL @ the struggle. Not even the producers believed u. Say no to violence barbs.”
There could always be the possibility that this feud is fake publicity, which is probably the case. Would Carey stay on the show if Minaj’s threats were actually real? We don’t think so. She has no need to be on a show like this. She’s a talented singer with loads of cash. She has no need to be putting up with Minaj’s silliness. This is probably just all for the show.
What do you think?
