It has long been rumored, but never confirmed before today: Randy Jackson, the affably bland and inoffensive American Idol judge, has exited the judge’s inexplicably popular and long-running reality TV contest. Jackson was the last remaining cast member on American Idol who began on season one of the show, other than Ryan Seacrest.
But before your body becomes wracked with the pain of shock and disbelief at such horrific news, don’t worry: Jackson will “transition to a mentor role in season 12.”
Billboard notes that Jackson was expected to stay on the American Idol in some capacity as he happens to co-manage new American Idol judge Mariah Carey. TMZ is now calling Jackson’s exit from the judging table official; representatives for both Randy Jackson and American Idol have yet to respond for comment on the TMZ news.
Elsewhere in American Idol casting news, Nicki Minaj’s deal to sign on the show is reportedly “99%” done, which should make things interesting as Mariah Carey is apparently feuding with the rapper. Moreover, Keith Urban, Enrique Iglesias, and Nick Jonas are all rumored to be in talks to join the show. So for those of you who still care about American Idol, there you go.
What do you think of the American Idol news?
