After experiencing a bit of pre-production chaos (to say the least), "Godzilla" is dusting itself off and moving on…to its next potential leading man.
Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt definitely isn't going to play the lead role in Gareth Edwards' reboot, Legendary Pictures is looking to Aaron Johnson as its choice frontrunner for the job. Before Johnson and Gordon-Levitt, the studio also considered Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy and Caleb Landry Jones.
But it seems that Johnson is treading carefully—the "Kick-Ass" and "Savages" star is reportedly waiting to read Frank Darabont's re-written, polished script before signing his name on anything.
Plot details are barely existent, but Warner Bros. and Legendary are supposedly planning to put a grittier spin on the classic Toho original. And aside from the whole giant-lizard-versus-buildings thing, it's been said that the film will feature more than one monster and a mysterious human soldier character, who we can presume will be played by Johnson or whoever else might nab the role.
Despite all of the crazy setbacks, "Godzilla" is still "on course" to start filming in March (hrm…) and will play in theaters on May 16, 2014. In the meantime, check out a trailer for Roland Emmerich's 1998 interpretation.
