Fifty Shades of Grey, the bestselling erotic novel, is not only the hottest book around, but the #1 "get" for movie studios hoping to land the big page-to-screen smash.
So who landed it?
According to several outlets, the film rights to the steamy trilogy and the chance to bring Christian Grey to the big screen were won by Universal and Focus Features.
The novel is about a 21-year-old college student who starts a relationship with a wealthy, late-20s entrepreneur who leads her partner into an S&M and bondage deal where she's submissive and continuously keeps his emotions repressed.
Sounds more like a good fit for HBO, doesn't it?
Moreover, in the second book, Fifty Shades Darker, Grey and Anastasia Steele's relationship takes a crazy plot turn and becomes even more of a thriller.
Between Sex and the City, True Blood, Hung and other shows, a weekly R-rated series based on this seems right up its alley. Can a movie do it justice?
